Summertime, Summertime!

So here's the deal. I loved rollerblading as a kid - I used to turn on the radio and blade in circles in my parents garage. Sometimes I threw in a wild figure 8. And those hours logged in the garage listening to the Backstreet Boys is how I learned to blade backwards and do spins and whatnot. Now that summer is in full effect over here, our little family has been spending a considerable amount of time outside in the evenings when the sun isn't quite so blazing hot (seriously Georgia give it a rest.) Everett is adamant that I teach him how to roller blade, but I think I will just let him focus on learning to ride a bike at this point ;) But there is something about rollerblading that is intrinsic to my childhood, and it connect me to my young self in a way that nothing else does. It's physical, it's hard, it's sweaty - it's fun! And that has been our summer so far - all of those things!

In continuation of the summer dress up series, I wanted to share this adorable Blue Leaf Print Maxi Dress from Pinkblush because it's truly such a good summer time option when the heat almost too much to bear. I discovered Pinkblush when I was pregnant because of all their maternity dresses, but I've continued loving their women's clothing since my body has changed so much over the years between being pregnant, postpartum, getting back to a somewhat "normal", and then doing the whole thing over again with baby #2. These clothes just seem to "get" the motherhood bod and the site's variety of prints and cuts helps me feel fresh without breaking the bank, which obviously - I love.

My favorite part about this dress is the cut out and the slit because - hello, air pockets! Plus, the slit really let me be free whilst blading to my heart's merriment. And you don't have to pair this dress with rollerblades - a regular pair of sandals will do just fine, you just might not win as many bonus points from your kids ;)

What dresses are helping you stay cool in this summer heat?

LOFT Midi Skirt, Target Pom Pom Top, Etbotu Bamboo Clutch, Anthropologie Earrings (old, similar here and here), Soludos Lace-Up Espadrille Sandals, BECASA bracelets (premier collection launches here tomorrow!), Kristen Ess Rose Gold Shampoo

My pink hair! It only lasted a few days but it was oh so fun. It's mostly sold out everywhere, but you can score some temporary pink hair using this Kristen Ess Rose Gold Shampoo ;) (If you're a brunette, this probably won't work for you unless you have some highlights - you can see that's how it worked for me.)

On to the clothes! Last summer I had so much fun putting together the "Milk Friendly" style series because that was the season of life I was in - trying to find stylish ways to step up my mom look without sacrificing comfort (all while nursing a babe!) This summer I'm in a different stage and I am excited to have more freedom to dress up without a bump or the need to whip out the milk makers at any given moment. Dresses and skirts will always be my favorites to wear because they are so feminine and pretty and versatile... so this summer I will share a dress up series entirely devoted to dresses and skirts. There are so many goodies to share!

For starters, I scored this Loft skirt during one of their (many) 40%-off sales and I am already loving it so so much! The detail of the gold buttons with the gray stripes on the white cotton is just perfect. I found this pom pom top at Target and almost lost my mind because it's so cute and also, because pom poms are so fun. Maybe it brings me back to all those pep rally cheerleading days. And I am so glad I decided to take the plunge and get this little clutch for summer - I've been using it non-stop and it's just so boho and unique. And I think I will be wearing this look with all kinds of different shoes this summer, but it so easily paired with my trusty old Soludos espadrilles that I couldn't resist. They are definitely my most-worn summer shoe - so feminine and SO comfy. Lastly, this batch of bangles on my arm were sourced in Paris by my friend Emily who is launching her own coastal-inspired lifestyle brand called BECASA, launching tomorrow, 6/7! She is one of those people who has always has impeccable taste and I am always intrigued to see what styles she gravitates toward. Plus, these bracelets look great with a tan (mine is entirely fake - I go to RAW Bronzing Studio), and are such a great summer accessory to add to almost anything. Is it just me, or does turquoise always win in the summer?

Between wedding showers and baby showers and hopefully a few summer dates (!), this look is something that will definitely be on rotation for me.

Tell me, what are your favorite summer pieces when you need to dress up? What are you reaching for this season?

Easter Dress Roundup!

It's been a while since I did a style round up, and I had so much fun putting this one together! Easter is such an amazing holiday, and I admit I still get giddy about Easter dresses like a 5-year-old girl. I blame my mother - she let us wear the frilliest dresses to church for Easter when I was growing up and all that twirling can really go to a girl's head.

Also, I included a few rompers and pant suits because gosh, there are so many good ones these days. If I had a million dollars I would love to wear the Mara Hoffman romper this year, but I will actually probably just wear a dress in my closet. I have so many that have gone unworn for a while (omg my postpartum body is so crazy - what size even am I??) Also, if Kate Middleton can re-wear her dresses, then I think it's mighty princess-y to wear one of my old frocks. Plus, that leaves room in the budget for SHOES.

What are you wearing this Easter?! I'd love to hear what colors and styles you're gravitating toward this season! xx

I love finding style inspiration online and through Pinterest and Instagram, but the thing is... a lot of what I see isn't actually feasible for my actual REAL life. Being a mom and living in the suburbs, I just don't have many reasons throughout the week to put on my slamming-est high heels and smokiest eyeliner. I love those things, but it's not really apart of my everyday life.

But I really do love fashion and as I'm getting older I'm learning to be more confident in the things I gravitate towards. I love pairing different colors and styles together, and I really love being able to chameleon every so often and incorporate pieces from all "genres". Although I will say it makes for a kind of funny wardrobe. Every time my extremely, insanely stylish sister comes to town, she's always like, "What do you actually wear?!" Because my closet is such an odd hodgepodge of artistic/boho items, a bunch of leggings and t-shirts and then a bunch of classic, ladylike things. Style is so interesting, I could talk about it all day.

But instead! I wanted to show you 3 ways I styled this blue scallop dress, courtesy of Pinkblush, in ways that are actually true to my life (and hopefully yours!) As much as I love putting on a good pair of sparkly heels and painting the town red (gosh I miss the New York days of my life), the truth is that most days I am in my purple Vans and doing #momlife and work-from-home life.

Pinkblush is mostly known for their maternity clothes (which is how I was introduced to them and their pieces make a pregnant gal feel GOOD) - but they actually have a ton of women's clothing for non-baby-growing seasons, as well. Things I love about this dress: the loose shift cut, the perfect spring color (!), and the super sweet bell sleeves. It's got a really great throwback Mary Tyler Moore vibe, especially styled below with a structured work tote - I love it! P.S. - Everett zooming by me in the pic above just makes me SO FREAKING HAPPY. That child loves to run.

There you have it! Three ways I would actually put this dress into good use. Although I admit I would still love to slip on some glitter heels and give this baby a whirl somewhere downtown. But let's be honest, the only dancing I'll be doing in this dress is going to be with my 1-year old, because he tolerates my Disney vocal stylings and will actually twirl around the room with me without his hands over his ears.

Outfit Details:
Urban Outfitters Skimmer Cardigan (similar here and here), Sonnet James Reese Dress in Red, Sorel Tivoli Snow Boots, Diffusing Mamas Lotus Necklace

I scored this dress on sale during a December promo, and I keep finding reasons why I should wear it at least once per week. It's just so comfy and the color makes me feel really happy, like the happiest version of myself. It's perhaps the most versatile item in my closet right now. I've worn it with flats, heels, boots and with tights, under sweaters and completely by itself. I LOVE IT. I've had a long-standing adoration for Sonnet James since this brand started up a few years ago, and I truly think Whitney is an incredible artist with a powerful personal story. The motto of this brand is "Playful Dresses for Playful Moms", and I really connect with that mantra. I'm not always a playful mom, but when I remind myself of who I want to be as a mother, I am so much better at it. And everytime I put on a Sonnet James, I tell myself I am a playful mom! And then I'm happier and my kids are happier and then we usually eat ice cream because we're all just celebrating the happiness.

As for the dress itself - I love the fabric - it's a heavy-weight rayon blend and it just hugs the curves in a way that doesn't completely grab at your love handles, just nicely skims the bod so you feel like your best self. I'm serious when I say that I put this on and just feel so good about myself - I want to buy 10 more dresses in this fabric and cut. And while we're gushing, lets just take a minute to talk about this playsuit - I mean, how radical and whimsically fun is that? It's on my wish list. I could play real good in that.

Sonnet James is always a crowd pleaser in my closet. Although since I've gotten rid of so much lately (thanks a lot, Marie Kondo), it's not really crowded in there at all.

Happy Friday to you, friends! xx
